EMPOWERMENT photography camp

Would you love to see your daughter happier, better able to handle her stresses and feel less anxious?

Is she overwhelmed by her emotions, heart break or academic pressures?

I had a teenage daughter once and actually coached a whole team of teenage girls on a track team many years ago, so I understand girls.  Oh, and I was a teenage girl once!  As a child of a Navy pilot, my family moved around all the time, so I was always meeting new kids and leaving boyfriends and friends behind.  What got me through so many boyfriend issues, school moves and my own self-esteem issues was my photography. Photography was a way for me to connect with new friends, create memories of my experiences and build gratitude for my unique, yet beautiful life.  It relaxed me because I had to slow down to look carefully at what I was taking a picture of. It got me out of my head and into what I was seeing. It was fun and creative and it made me feel good to make beautiful images that I could share with my friends and family.  Showing them my photographs was my way of communicating with them. I couldn’t wait to pick up my camera each day and start looking for things and people to take pictures of.

This empowerment photography camp is designed to show the girls that photography can be used to process their challenging emotions, stresses and feelings, just like I did, in a fun and easily accessible way, And they will create some incredible, impactful photographs to reflect upon.

Let’s Shift That Lens!

What to expect:

We will carefully look inward as well as outward.

  • Each day the girls will learn some mindful tools, like visualization meditations, relaxing breathing and positive mindset, to help them get centered, calm and present for their photography assignment.

  • We will discuss body issues, negative self talk, our conditioning and how it effects the way we see things, and most of all how imagery influences us every day.  How we see (inside and out) is how we live our lives.

  • We will be learning to shift our focus to see the world and all of its beauty through mindfully photographing. It’s a contemplative way of looking which creates calm and presence.

  • We will use our bodies in our photographs, as forms and shapes and in relationship to nature, instead of objects to be judged.

  • We will connect with each other in a supportive sisterhood with portrait photography and at the end of the week I will also do a portrait of each of them to show them how beautiful they are.  You will certainly be able to see these shots on a camp gallery.

  • A more positive body image.

  • Self-confidence behind and in front of the camera.

  • Authentic self-expression through their images and voices.

  • How to see their lives and the people in it with more positivity.

  • An understanding of why being mindful helps create better pictures.

  • How photography can help them connect with others.

  • How to take photographs that mean something to them.

  • A contemplative practice to use for the rest of their lives.

And best of all…. some really amazing pictures.

Who Am I?

I am a professional photographer of 30 years, an author, speaker, mother of three (including a girl) and a mindfulness coach. I have worked with teens teaching photography and coaching track. I am passionate about empowering young and older women to be their best and most fully expressed selves. I think women are amazing, strong and resilient and even more so when we form a sisterhood and support one another. I like to have fun, laugh, not take myself to seriously and I can often be found dancing or hiking with my friends. I believe I have learned some things in my 54 years but I also believe everyone has something to teach me too. I can’t wait to meet you.
